Students of Guelph, Ontario’s ‘JamSchool’ will get a chance to show what they have learned in a two-day concert series this June. Over 300 students will take part in one of five shows taking place across the weekend. The annual event, known as the ‘JamBoree’, will be the 12th of its kind. The school is dedicated to the cause of youth music, but the weekend will also feature an ‘adult social’ dedicated to its older students.
The school grew out of JamSpots, an organization that provided rehearsal, practice and recording spaces within the Guelph area. JamSchool was created in 2007, and now has two locations in Guelph, including a south end campus that offers an instrument retail school and a special series of classes focused on music recording and programming. The school has become a part of the local music community – a group of courses and events often held at small venues and using tools like poster printing, social media, flyer printing and word of mouth to attract audiences and future students.
The JamBoree will take place on the weekend of June 22 and 23 at Guelph Little Theatre, with the adult social taking place on Friday evening. The music featured will involve a variety of styles and instruments, ranging from the electric guitar to the flute. In addition to this event, JamSchool also holds a number of performances around Guelph, including an outdoor summer party and concert.
