Guelph’s long-running Hillside Music Festival has announced its line-up for 2023, featuring dozens of musical artists for an outdoor concert.
The festival takes place on Guelph Lake Island and offers hiking and camping in addition to a variety of musical acts. Headlining acts include folk legend Martha Wainwright, alternative pop act U. S. Girls, and Canadian indie star Will Butler, playing with Sister Squares. The festival will also feature a number of lesser-known acts with names such as Lonesome Ace Stringband, Daniel Romano’s Outfit, and Riki Gee’s Time’s Front Lawn. Music festivals are a popular way to experience new artists and genres, often using poster printing and local radio advertising to attract local fans.
Hillside Music Festival recently celebrated 40 years of existence, with the 2023 event being an anniversary event, and is dedicated to being an eco-friendly festival. The festival is hosted in a national conservation area and allows for camping both on the festival ground and throughout the island. Past editions have featured environmental education, children’s entertainment, and Indigenous drum artists. The 2023 event will feature several stages and workshops, an artisan market, and food trucks and stalls. Art and promotional material for the festival is done by Toronto-based illustrator Sarah Farquhar.
The 2023 Hillside Music Festival will take place on Guelph Lake Island between July 28 and 30.
