Major brand change for Guelph-based tech shop

It was recently revealed that electronics retailer Future Shop would no longer be in operation across the country, and many of its locations – including the store based here in Guelph – would be converting to Best Buy.

The store, located at 151 Stone Rd W, has been open for more than four years, and the news came suddenly according to the Guelph Mercury. Many customers showed up at the store, only to find that it was closed while it was being made ready to reopen under its new name.

The Guelph Mercury interviewed people who had stopped by to learn what was going on.

One person remarked that they understood the rationale behind the decision, while another was very pleased that the extended warranty they had purchased through Future Shop would be honored by Best Buy

The company will also accept any of its predecessor’s gift cards and returns, and ensure that any further deliveries of online orders will be made. Brochure printers can produce pamphlets that let people know about the upcoming changes and address any concerns they may have.

In a press release from Best Buy, the brand’s CEO and president noted that, as the situation now currently stands, the present customers of Future Shop live within a short distance of one of their stores, and this will not change.
