One of Southern Ontario’s quirkiest music festivals will be returning to Guelph this spring for one final ride.
For the past twelve years, Kazoo Fest has featured an eclectic selection of local and international music. In a relief to local ears, little of it actually involves kazoos. This year’s festival is proof of the event’s unique taste.
The event will be headlined by Mount Eerie, the stage name of Phil Elverum, performing uncanny stripped-down folk music, which has drawn the attention of critics and indie music aficionados across North America. Other top acts include Egyptian singer Nadah El Shazly, Indian-Canadian hip-hop sister duo Cartel Madras, and New York rapper Fat Tony.
Kazoo Fest 2020 will also include local artists like Noah23, Bruce Peninsula and Sandro Perri, who have become favourites of attendees over the years. The festival’s poster printing aims to capture its offbeat nature, including Kazoo Fest’s mascot of a cat wearing an eyepatch and assorted strange creatures waving goodbye to the passerby.
The festival will also include the Kazoo Print Expo, featuring local comics and magazines. These works are often created on a do-it-yourself basis using personal equipment or local print shops.
