The Music Weekends in Downtown Guelph concert series has officially launched, bringing residents live music throughout the winter.
The series is hosted by the Downtown Guelph Business Association and is designed to drive foot traffic to the downtown area. It has been held annually since 2017. Each weekend includes concerts on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, with singing and dancing along encouraged.
This year’s edition kicked off on January 13 with performances by Lori Yates and Naomi Dyon, with other acts such as Onion Honey, Dylan Creed & The Bitter Donut, and Vintage Vinyl having already taken the stage. The concerts are hosted at a variety of local restaurants, as well as other venues such as the Red Papaya and McCabe’s Irish Pub.
The series runs throughout February and into March, including performances from Lindsey & The Lonelies and Middlebrook. Music Weekends will wrap up with a showcase of students from the Jamschool programs, with separate youth and adult concerts taking place at Royal Electric. Concert series like this are a popular way to showcase local artists as well as venues, with methods such as poster printing and local radio advertising often used for promotional purposes. All shows in the Music Weekends series are free of charge.
The 2024 Music Weekends in Downtown Guelph Series takes place on Saturday and Sunday afternoons at various locations until March 10.
