This September, Guelph will be holding its annual Walk for Apraxia, benefiting research and healthcare for children with the neurological disease.
The Guelph walk invites participants to walk a set distance, with the focus being on fundraising and community instead of competition. Each walker, sometimes as part of a team, raises money for Apraxia Kids, an organization that provides education, community outreach, accommodation, and research for children suffering from apraxia, a condition that can cause loss of speech and motor functions.
Children with the condition can also register to walk and receive a free shirt and medal, with the goal of celebrating them as “Apraxia Stars”. Participating children will also be individually recognized for their achievements.
Walkers who donate at least $50 will also receive a promotional T-shirt, with other individual and team prizes available. Charity walks and runs often use custom Apparel and other types of Promotional Products as a donation incentive, as well as a memento. Similar walks are hosted by the Apraxia Kids organization throughout North America, making it the largest apraxia-related fundraising events. While some past editions used hybrid or remote formats, this year’s walk will be an exclusively in-person event.
The 2023 Guelph Walk for Apraxia will take place on the morning of September 23 at Riverside Park, with the walk starting at the Red Roofed Shelter.
