The University of Guelph will hold its annual College Royal event for the 101st time this September, ushering in the event’s second century.
College Royal is the largest university open house in North America, with the campus open for visits from students, alumni, and the general public. Over 80 clubs and organizations from the university will have displays and exhibits showing off what they’ve been working on. Exhibits like this often use tools like poster printing and hands-on aides to better explain information. There will also be a livestock show with staff and students showing off horses, cattle and sheep, hearkening back to the University’s agricultural roots.
The rustic theme continues with the Old Macdonald’s New Farm, aimed at educating children and families, a square dance competition, a dog and cat show, and outdoor games such as tug of war and lumberjack competitions. One of the highlights will be the College Royal Ball, a party atmosphere with a live band, DJ and karaoke in different areas as well as food trucks on hand. The Guelph Community Art Show will highlight paintings, sculptures and photographs by students done outside of the University’s arts programs. This year’s event will mark 100 years since the first open house in 1925, and the 101st overall edition.
The 2025 College Royal event will hold its open house on March 15 and 16, with the College Royal Ball occurring a week earlier on the 8th, with other events taking place across the week and the University of Guelph campus.
