Guelph to honour new Sports Hall class

The Guelph Sports Hall of Fame will be recognizing a new group of accomplished local athletes and contributors this May in the annual Kiwanis Sports Celebrity Dinner.

Inducted this year in the Athlete wing of the Hall will be professional baseball pitcher Scott Diamond, who played for the Blue Jays and Team Canada during his career; former national team basketball player and Guelph Gryphons coach James Gillingham; and softball standout Angela Lichty-Crowther. David Leger, head of the accomplished Guelph Rowing Club, and soccer pioneer Keith Mason, who played key roles in Guelph’s junior, collegiate and semi-professional teams. Young athletes who their coaches have nominated as “Future Hall of Famers” will also be recognized.

The induction dinner will also include local speakers and sports celebrities to host the event. Attendees can meet and get autographs from the guests. The evening will be a gala event including cocktails, music and dancing. There will be raffles and live and silent auctions to help raise money. Inductees will each have their portrait placed in the Sleeman Centre in downtown Guelph, and receive a replica of the portrait as a keepsake. Local halls of fame and other recognitions often use print services and trophy makes to help create items to recognize local contributors.

The 2025 Kiwanis Sports Celebrity Dinner will take place at the Italian Canadian Club of Guelph on the evening of May 21.
