The Guelph Little Theatre will be presenting a homegrown comedy this April with its production of Five Alarm.
The play is written by Toronto-based Kristen Da Silva and is set at an annual chili cook off in Killaloe, Ontario. The story concerns a woman who is trying to win the competition after 15 years of failed attempts, re-connecting with her past in the process. The play was first performed in 2017 at the Port Stanley Festival to critical acclaim. The Guelph production will be directed by Stephen Sherry and star local actors selected through an audition process.
Five Alarm will have a considerable run in Guelph, with nine evening performances and three matinees. Local theatrical productions like this often use methods like flyer printing and social media clips to help drum up local interest. Children and seniors over 60 can receive discounted tickets.
The play is the finale of the Guelph Little Theatre’s 2023-24 season, which has focused on less well-known dramas and comedies. In addition to its regular production, the 89-year-old company hosts the Ward One Acts festival, featuring original one-act plays submitted by budding playwrights, as well as regular open mic nights and other events.
The Guelph Little Theatre production of Five Alarm will run on weekends from April 11 to 28 at the Theatre’s building on Morris Street.
