Guelph seniors group to host presentation series

For many people, aging and increased levels of aches and pains go hand in hand. The Guelph-Wellington Seniors Association will be hosting a series of presentations on making elderly life a little less painful.

Scheduled to start on September 24th, the series consists of four seminars, entitled ‘Use Your Brain to Fight Your Pain’, ‘Pharmaceutical Management of Pain’, ‘Pain and the Older Person’ and ‘Pain from a Physiotherapist’s Perspective’.

Each session will include information on the topic and will be delivered by an expert in the field. Participants will learn about such topics as pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical methods of pain control, advocating for their needs, and the idea of ‘mind over matter’ when it comes to dealing with pain.

A second series of lectures geared towards seniors is scheduled for this fall. These will deal with many different facets of planning for one’s retirement. Topics covered will include stress management, cooking and nutrition, finance, fitness, health, and being mentally prepared for this period of change in a person’s life.

Events like this can distribute information to a large number of people. Brochure printers can create pamphlets that they can take home, so they will be able to review the information at their leisure.

All the evenings are being held free of charge, but advance registration is required. Those interested in doing so, or who would like more information, can call Pat Gage at 519-837-5696.
