This October will see the Guelph Comedy Festival, one of the city’s biggest events designed to make the audience laugh out loud, celebrate its tenth anniversary with a jam-packed edition.
The three-day event will invite local stand-up comedians, improvisers, and more to take the stage. All three nights will start with an improv event, including “Improv Jam Sandwich” and “Rap Battlez”, before moving on to stand-up focused performances. Thursday night will feature local performers including Jason Dalgleish and Jackie Pirico as part of a “Hometown Heroes” show, while Friday’s “Stand-Up Powerhouse” will highlight comics from across Canada, headlined by Deanne Smith. Both of these events will be followed by a 20-minute free set. The festival is supported by local sponsors as well as volunteer efforts.
The weekend will conclude with a “10th Anniversary Spectacular” featuring successful acts from across the festival’s ten editions, including Comedy Sketchtown, Aashay Dalvi, and 2 Man No Show, followed by an afterparty. Confirmed performers include best-selling author Dr. Sarah Boston, Baroness Von Sketch star Aurora Browne, and Pinch Cabaret founder Ben Gorodetsky. Stand-up comedy and improvisation are typically grassroots art Forms using events such as this to raise performers’ profile, alongside promotional tools ranging from podcasts to poster printing.
The 2023 Guelph Comedy Fest will take place on October 19-21 at 10C Shared Space.
