Local chef Becky Hood was chosen from among many different applicants to compete on the popular TV cooking show ‘Chopped’, and the final results will soon be made known to her staff, friends, family and the general public.
The show – which tests the cooking abilities of chefs by asking them to create an appetizer, entrée, and dessert using the ingredients of a mystery basket – is scheduled to air on January 24th. Ms. Hood competed against three other Canadian epicures, and though the show was taped several months ago, she has been sworn to secrecy about how well she did.
Though she did not originally intended to have a career in the food industry, a chance job application back in her university days ended up leading her in that direction. She’s been cooking professionally for 10 years now. A friend thought that, because of her creativity and ability to think on her feet, she would be perfect for the show.
She is currently the head chef at 39 Carden Street, which is a restaurant in Guelph’s downtown area. Not even her co-workers, who helped her get ready for the show, know how well she did.
Being given the chance to compete in a televised cooking competition can bring fame to a chef’s establishment. A printing company can be called upon to create promotional items that let the public know about the event.
