The Guelphs Arts Council has announced that it will be extending its outreach and support for local artists after receiving support from the City of Guelph and other local organizations.
The organization will now be offering memberships free of charge to artists of all mediums in Guelph-Wellington, with a particular emphasis on reaching out to traditionally marginalized groups. It will be looking to build a roster of performers ranging from musicians to comedians to participate in safe live performances in Guelph neighbourhoods, workplaces and other settings.
The goal of the new initiative is to help artists deal with the challenges posed to their livelihoods by ongoing restrictions on social gatherings. To further these efforts, the council is hosting a series of online workshops in partnership with the Business Centre Guelph-Wellington and 2h Media.
The classes are designed to focus on the business side of arts, particularly during the COVID period. The workshops will include “Art Business in Digital and Physical Spaces” on November 5 and “Career Rebuilding: Making Money with Your Creative Business” on November 12.
The Arts Council will also be continuing its one-on-one counselling service over the Internet, phone and safely in person. Members of such councils often exchange Business Cards.
The Guelph Arts Council’s free membership initiative will remain open until the end of 2020.
