Course offered for people living with dementia in Guelph

Guelph’s ollder adults living with Alzheimer’s disease and other Forms of dementia, as well as their caregivers, will soon be welcomed to an eight-week program in that will combine physical activity and mental stimulation exercises in a spirit of friendship and fun.

The sessions run for two hours each, and they incorporate a range of physical exercises that are easy to follow. The participants will be led by a certified fitness instructor, and along with these activities, there will be others designed to help keep the mind stimulated and build personal skills. The workshop will be held once each week, and the goal is to help improve brain health and function by staying active both at home and in the community.

Those who are interested in taking part in the course are highly encouraged to bring along their care partner, and the registration fee for the program has been set at $60. Binding can be used to craft simple manuals for events such as this so the people who attend can continue the exercises at home.

This fall session of Mind in Motion is set to begin on September 20, and it will end on November 8 at the Evergreen Seniors Community Centre in Guelph.
