The 9th annual Art on the Street art exhibition and sale will take place in Guelph on July 16 from 11 am to 5 pm; Quebec Street will be closed off to traffic for the event. Printing firms in the area have provided a brochure, which lists the artists who are participating and provides a detailed map of the event.
Art on the Street is a juried exhibition hosted by the Downtown Guelph Business Association and the Guelph Arts Council. Admission to the exhibition is free and there will be 64 booths, or open-air studios, set up along Quebec Street. Artists will be selling directly to the public.
This art exhibition covers a vast range of arts and crafts; there will be painters such as Bruce Home, potters, glass blowers, photographers such as Annette Twist, textile artists and printmakers such as Clive Lewis. All of the artists are local to the area. The Acts of Arts children’s area in St. George’s Square will feature Sonic Playground and the Guelph School of Art.
Outdoor art exhibitions are the perfect way for the public to see what local artists are creating in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Many people do not regularly go to art galleries where they can be exposed to art. Art on the Street will not only help the artists get recognition for their artwork and sell their work, it will also help to educate the public in contemporary art appreciation and introduce children to the possibilities available to them.
