Guelph’s Art on the Streets festival is set to make a full return this June, bringing local artists’ works into the heart of the city.
The event will see artists set up booths and displays along the sidewalks and roads of downtown Guelph in a festival-like atmosphere. Having boasted of being Guelph’s largest outdoor art exhibition, Art on the Streets is free to attend, with some artworks available for purchase. Works are entered into categories ranging from ceramics and painting to digital media. The most impressive displays will receive awards such as Best of Show, Best Booth and People’s Choice, with accompanying prizes.
This year’s edition will mark the 20th installment of Art on the Street, which started as a much smaller show in 2003. To celebrate, the exhibit has been extended over two days. The event is organized by the Guelph Arts Council and Downtown Guelph Business Association and is designed to encourage people to spend a day downtown enjoying the works of local artists. Events such as this are often promoted via poster printing.
The Guelph Arts Council also hosts Doors Open Guelph, which provides a similar opportunity with indoor exhibits and studios and has gone digital over recent years, and provides a number of awards and funding to area artists.
Art on the Street 2022 will take place on June 25 and 26 throughout downtown Guelph.
