St. Johns expo to welcome newcomers

The fifth annual edition of the My New St. John’s Expo will be staged this October, aiming to welcome immigrants and other newcomers to the Newfoundland and Labrador capital.

The event is hosted by the St. John’s Local Immigration Partnership, with support from municipal and provincial organizations, and is free to all. Its goals include connecting newcomers with local community organizations, programs and services offered by the community, as well as forging new social connections. The event was announced earlier this month as part of the St. John’s Welcome Week initiative. Promotional material explains that:

“The goal of the event is to extend a warm welcome to existing and new members of our community, and to help drive engagement in all aspects of social, economic and cultural life in St. John’s.”

Community organizations and businesses represented at the expo include the Association For New Canadians, Multicultural Women’s Organization of Newfoundland and Labrador, St. John’s Business Information Centre, and Public Legal Information Association of NL.

Visitors can also meet with job placement organizations and potential employers. Expos and other events like this can provide valuable networking opportunities, with attendees often using resume and business card printing to help prepare.

The 2025 My New St. John’s Expo will take place on the morning and afternoon of October 14 at the St. John’s Community Market.
