St. Johns to revive musical era

A wave of 1970s nostalgia will sweep through St. John’s as the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra revisits the music of four decades ago.

Under the direction of conductor Martin MacDonald, the orchestra will present a two-hour concert featuring selections from rock, funk, soul, R&B and disco. Vocalist Dana Parsons, joined by singers Amy Wilson and John Williams, will lead audiences through some of the era’s most recognisable sounds.

Music enthusiasts can expect familiar melodies from artists such as Boston, Chicago and the Bee Gees, alongside other influential performers of the time. Guest vocalists Baraka, Jodee Richardson, Wade Tarling and Mike Bursey will also appear throughout the evening, which combined with the full orchestra, will lift the era’s well-known songs into a more expansive musical interpretation.

According to the organizer, the performance aims to highlight the cultural influence of 1970s music, a decade that shaped tastes, attitudes and artistic expression. East Port Properties noted that the concert may stir personal memories for some listeners while introducing others to artists they may not have encountered before.
