Gander is a small community in the Canadian province of Newfoundland, and a play that is set to be staged in Winnipeg this fall will tell an inspiring story of how it welcomed the world.
The play “Come From Away” is a fictional take on how the events of 9/11 impacted Gander. The former Cold War-era air base is still in operation, and it provided a refuge to flights from all over the world that were diverted when the USA and many other countries closed their airspace to commercial flights.
The performance will be the Broadway version, which has won several awards and praise from a variety of critics. It includes a musical score, and it will be directed by Christopher Ashley. The audience will learn how a tiny community of a few hundred people opened their hearts and homes to more than 7,000 stranded passengers, even going as far as pausing a school transport strike so that the drivers could pitch in.
Many people who attend a live performance like this choose to keep the programme as a souvenir. Items like this can be crafted by an area brochure printing company.
Come From Away will be performed for Winnipeg audiences from Tuesday, October 25th to Sunday, October 30th. The performances will be held at Centennial Concert Hall.
