Winnipeg to enjoy hands-on tufting

A textile workshop in Winnipeg will introduce participants to the process of rug tufting.

Rug tufting is a practice that pushes wool through fabric to create thick, textured designs intended for floors or walls. The Chuffed to (Rug) Tuft workshop will bring instructors Cole of Honey Dill Print and Maureen of Wool Mountain together, guiding attendees through the making process. Participants will have the option of creating either a small or medium-sized carpet.

Organizers will guide participants through a step-by-step rug-tufting process, working from design concept to completed piece using provided wool yarn, tufting frame and backing. The workshop offers a hands-on approach that makes rug-making accessible even to beginners.

There will be a limited class size of five people to allow instructors to assist individually, including one option for a duo to work on a single rug. Due to the detailed finishing work, each completed piece must remain undisturbed for up to three days to allow drying of fibres and adhesives. The session will take place in a heritage studio space on the second floor, which is not wheelchair accessible. The organizers will provide light refreshments.

Print shops can offer Logo Design and business card printing to help local businesses spread the word throughout a community.

The event will be hosted by ARTlington studios, 618 Arlington Street, Winnipeg, January 11, 2026, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.
