Vancouver area jazz festival to return for 35th edition

After a year off, the Vancouver International Jazz Festival will return with a largely virtual event, and residents of North Vancouver and surrounding areas are invited to tune in.

The festival is hosted by the Coastal Jazz & Blues Society, and it will showcase British Columbia artists, as well as livestreams from across the world. The scheduled events include 39 concerts with over 100 artists across three Vancouver area venues, plus international streams.

Featured performers include Snotty Nose Rez Kids, Dee Daniels and Jill Barber. All concerts will be streamed online, with plans for in-person attendance if regulations allow. There will also be a number of online seminars and other educational programs running throughout the week.

The festival also includes a partnership with North Shore Jazz, which includes a North Shore Jazz series hosted in conjunction with the festival in areas like North Vancouver and Burnaby. This year’s North Shore series will include streamed performances from Capilano University by Suzie Ungerleider, Electric Miles and more.

Often advertised through means like banner printing and local broadcasts, music festivals have had to go virtual over the last year, but the format still helps to bring together lovers of different music styles.

The Vancouver International Jazz Festival is set to run between June 25 and July 4, with venues including Performance Works, Pyatt Hall and Frankie’s Jazz Club.
