Polar bear and penguin swims are a popular New Year's day tradition in many Canadian communities that have access to a body of water, and North Vancouver is one of the areas that has an activity in the works.
Some intrepid bathers will be taking the water at Panorama Park in Deep Cove. Some may run into the water and right back out again, while others will choose to go for a longer dip or even swim a few laps.
The activity will be free of charge, and those who stop by the registration kiosk will receive a participation pin/badge. Food and refreshments will be served, and a bonfire will be blazing to help everyone warm up. Gary Comeau and the Voodoo All-Stars will provide live entertainment, and the monies raised will be donated to Royal Canadian Marine Search & Rescue. The check in tent will be set up above the venue’s playground, and costumes are encouraged.
Along with the pins, the participants can show off their cold water tolerance by purchasing one of the branded T-Shirts that will be for sale to help raise even more for the cause. Promotional Products like this are a common occurrence at similar events.
The 2026 Deep Cove Penguin Plunge will take to the water on January 1st. It will take place at 2:00 pm.
