Popular CBC podcast to hold live recording in North Van

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s The Debaters podcast and radio show will be holding a series of live tapings in North Vancouver this February.

The tapings will feature the show’s usual format, which pits comedians against each other in debates on topics both big and small. Each taping will feature four such debates of approximately 15 minutes each, with eight comedians in all appearing. The comedian line-ups are expected to be announced in the lead-up to the event, but past editions of The Debaters have featured popular Canadian comedians such as Sean Cullen and Elvira Kurt, as well as international names such as Marc Maron and Greg Proops. The show is hosted by comedian Steve Patterson.

While each edition of The Debaters is a half-hour long, tapings often run up to two hours, with many tangents and jokes in the live show ultimately cut for time. Each night will be turned into two episodes, which will both be distributed digitally through podcast services and broadcast over the air on CBC Radio One.

The North Vancouver stop will be for three nights, and it could bring West Coast comedic talent to the show, which is typically broadcast out of Toronto. Live podcast tapings, often advertised through physical methods like flyer printing in addition to digital outreach, have emerged as popular events and are often alternatives to traditional stand-up comedy.

The Debaters live podcast tapings will take place at the Centennial Theatre in North Vancouver on February 8, 9, and 10.
