Students starting at the University of the Fraser Valley’s Abbotsford and Chilliwack campuses this month will find it much easier to travel back and forth to their classes and social events thanks to the introduction of a new shuttle bus service.
The Campus Connector bus will travel 15 times a day between Monday and Thursday, with eight journeys on Friday. The schedule starts in the early morning, with the last run being near midnight. Many students have classes in both locations, and as there is currently no public transportation, they must either drive a car or use the Greyhound bus, which can be an inconvenience.
The buses will have seating for 20 people, and will be wheelchair accessible. Stops will be in Chilliwack at Building A, the Trades and Technology Center and the parking lot near the Lickman overpass. In Abbotsford, the stops will be at the biggest campus and the parking lot near the McCallum overpass. A Print company has been hired to create Signs to indicate exactly where the boarding points will be.
Funding for the pilot project will be coming through a joint effort. The University is set to cover 40 percent of the $200,000 cost, while the students have voted to pay an additional $6.75 fee per year to cover the remaining 60 percent.
The service will be available free of charge to both faculty and scholars.
While there is currently no public transit system between the two cities, it is hoped that this will change in the near future.Get a Free Quote for Print Get a Free Quote for Signs
