Every year, Abbotsford’s Elizabeth’s Wildlife Center provides a safe place for hundreds of sick or injured wild animals to rest and recuperate, and locals recently got a chance to see just how that happens.
The center is usually not able to accommodate visitors, as it is a fully operational rescue facility. The rabbits, birds, opossums, squirrels, and other creatures that reside there need quiet, so they can become healthy and eventually be released.
For two special days, an exception was made to this rule. Visitors were welcomed and given a tour of the facility, which included an opportunity to meet some of its residents and learn more about how it is run. They also heard its success stories, like that of Bunker – a sandhill crane whose leg was broken when he was hit by a golf ball. Veterinarians were not able to save his leg, and he required a prosthetic. A company that makes them for people heard his story, and stepped up to help.
Providing care for its animal guests can be quite expensive, and it depends upon donations to keep going. In order to remain fully functional, it needs approximately $1,000 a month. This provides the creatures with food and other essentials.
Not-for-profit groups often operate on a tight budget, so fundraising has to be both effective and economical. Printing companies can provide promotional materials that make a lot of impact without being too costly.
