Abbotsford evening to put chevre front and centre

An Abbotsford area farm that produces chevre will be opening its gates to the community for a special evening, and it will include beverage pairings.

Goat’s milk can be used to craft an assortment of foods, and one of these is cheese, also known as chevre. Laurica Farm has planned an event that will give guests an opportunity to learn how goat’s milk cheese is produced. Attendees will also go home with some milk that has been inoculated so that they can make yogurt at home. A number of ciders from Fraser Valley Cider Company will be available too.

Guests will learn about how milk is pasteurized before it is used and why this step is important. They will then see how the milk is inoculated and Forms a curd before it is made into chevre. They will also learn how cow’s milk can be made into yogurt cheese, and these ingredients will form the basis of the dishes served at dinner.

The group will work together to create a variety of cheese-based dishes such as cheese balls with fresh herbs and chevre with honey and cheese spread. They will also be treated to freshly baked bread.

Tickets for this event are $60 each. Recipe cards and other learning materials can be prepared for events like this by local Print shops.

Laurica Farm’s Cheese Making and Cider Tasting event will take place on September 28th. It is located in Aldergrove at 25775 12 Avenue.
