Youth music contest to launch in Red Deer
This December will see the premiere of the RD Battle of the Bands music competition, which aims to provide a big opportunity for youth artists.
The event is open to rock bands consisting of middle and high school students in Red Deer. The competition will be hosted by veteran Red Deer DJs Peter Michaels and Patrick Bateman. The top-ranking bands in the high school and middle school categories will each receive the opportunity to play on a New Year’s Eve show at the Memorial Concert, as the opening acts for local band New Rationals and Edmonton-based act Whale and the Wolf.
Other prizes available include gift cards to local music stores and recording time at Communal Creative Studios and Melodious Design Recording Company. Event marketing stresses the community nature of the competition:
“Battle of the Band” events and other musical competitions are often a great way for young artist to have a chance to perform in a professional setting, with competitions often promoted through flyer printing and social media posts. The goal is for RD Battle of the Bans to be an annual presence in Red Deer.
RD Battle of the Bands is scheduled to take place on the afternoon of December 3 at The Flex Red Deer.
