Red Deer outdoor enthusiasts have been issued a challenge, and those who want to put their skills to the test are encouraged to sign on.

The city is preparing for Flyathon 2026, which will provide a fun and high energy way to promote the importance of freshwater conservation. It will be on offer in mid-September and will combine different sports into one activity.

The function will consist of fishing, trail running and enjoying craft beer, and the charities of choice will be involved in protecting freshwater ecosystems. It is designed to be inclusive instead of competitive, and everyone of all skill levels and abilities can participate. This will be the first year the function has been offered, and it will begin at Canada 150 place. The registrants will run with their fishing gear to a spot of their choosing, and with luck, they will catch a fish, record its details and then release it.

After the fishing, the attendees can head to Troubled Monk for a craft beer. The route is 5km, and there will be volunteers helping out along the way. Tee shirts and other bespoke gear for an event can be ordered from a printing services company that supplies in-house graphic design options.
