Sylvan Lake winter festival to warm up the season
The Sylvan Lake Winterfest is taking place next month for three days.
There will be four days of events and family fun
that should help residents to warm up in the depth of winter. Plenty of family activities will be taking place east of the pier including games and other outdoor pursuits.
One part of the festival will be the ice marathon hosted by the Foothills Speed Skating Marathon Association that will take place over two days. The first day, February 13, will feature a 5K and a 25K race. Later on, there will be a spaghetti dinner; tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for children aged 10 and under. The next day will be the main event, a 100K beginning at 9:00 AM. For those celebrating Valentine's Day, there will also be a Valentine's Day Tour.
One of the main events to take place will be the Polar Bear Dip on February 13. The cost is $15 to register with a minimum of $100 in pledges. This will benefit several local charities. Those who are interested can call 403-887-2141 for more information.
The festival will also feature a fireworks display from the pier.
Red Deer area stationery printers were likely asked to provide items such as sponsorship forms for those taking part in the polar dip.
