Summer festivals celebrate Alberta history
The second weekend in August will see two festivals that celebrate an aspect of Alberta history.
The first one is the Pioneer Days Festival at Sunnybrook Farm Museum. There will be a pancake breakfast, tractor pulls, and a parade and threshing demonstrations. There will also be homemade pie, a silent auction, children's activities such as face painting, and food for purchase.
The next event is the Viking Days Festival and the Danish Canadian Museum in nearby Dickson. Visitors can watch reenactments of life during the Vikings, craft demonstrations, and battle and armor skills. There will also be plenty of interactive exhibits suitable for all ages.
For those who want to experience more of the culture, they can attend the Feast with the Vikings. They will enjoy a traditional dinner, beer, wine, mead, and dessert. Tickets are $50 each.
Either of these events will be a good educational outing for Red Deer residents. Organisers may invest in poster or flyer services to publicize these items.
The Pioneer Days Festival will take place at the Sunnybrook Farm Museum from August 15 to 16. Admission is $15 for a family or $5 per person. Call 403-340-3511 to find out more.
The Viking Days Festival will be held at the Danish Canadian Museum from August 15 to 16. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children aged 13 and under. Call 403-728-0019 for more information.
