Red Deer to host Alberta Country Music Awards

The Alberta city of Red Deer will play host to the province’s Country Music Awards this January.

The awards will be hosted by Aaron Goodvin, a native Albertan who recently won ‘Songwriter of the Year’ at the Canadian Country Music Awards. Members of the Association of Country Music in Alberta will vote to determine the artists, songwriters, and industry figures who best represented Alberta in the genre in 2018.

The awards ceremony will take place on January 27 at the Sharton Red Deer Hotel. Local musicians such as Brad Saunders, Ryan Langlois, Alee and Michela Sheedy have been nominated for the Male and Female Artist of the Year awards.

Meanwhile, The Dungarees’ ‘Don’t Hold Back’, Drew Gregory’s ‘Know Good’, Nice Horse’s ‘Mansplainin’’ will duke it out for ‘Song of the Year’ honours. Other awards include ‘Industry Person of the Year’, ‘Country Venue of the Year’, and ‘Radio Station of the Year’.

Alberta has long been associated with Canadian country music, and the rising artists appearing at this show could be tomorrow’s big names. These musicians come out of local shows, often held in small venues and advertised with poster printing and banner printing. Video and music streaming services, however, have made it possible for local musicians to reach a worldwide audience. Award voting ends on December 28.
