Red Deer to celebrate Festival of Trees once again

For the 25th year running, the city of Red Deer, Alberta will kick off the holiday season with the fundraising Festival of Trees.

The five-day event will raise money for the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre. Cumulatively, past events have raised as much as $15 million for local hospitals, involved thousands of volunteers, and entertained tens of thousands of guests.

The 2018 festivities will kick off on Wednesday, November 21 with a gala preview dinner for the festival's sponsors. The rest of the week will be dotted with special events such as a ‘Taste of Red Deer’ featuring affordable samplers from the city's best restaurants, a ‘Festival of Wines’ that is already sold out, and a Sunday-morning ‘Breakfast with Santa’ sure to delight local kids.

Even when there is not a special event on, visitors can view an array of specially-decorated Christmas trees, and get a chance to take one of them home through auctions and raffles. Unique areas like ‘Candy Cane Lane’ and ‘Santa's Secret Shop’ will be open throughout the weekend.

Holiday events like the Festival of Trees have proved very effective in raising money for good causes -- for instance, the 2015 Festival alone raised $1m. Such events are often advertised with festive poster printing and flyer printing, and can create lasting memories in a community. Children aged three and under will be admitted to the festival free.
