The Red Deer Symphony Orchestra (RDSO) will begin its 2022-23 season this October with a “Mighty Maestros” concert.
The premiere show will feature “meaty classics” from famed composers, featuring Beethoven’s Pastorale symphony and Schumann’s Piano Concerto, with pianist Mikolaj Warszynski in the feature role. The concert presents an opportunity for the orchestra to challenge itself with a different approach to its usual more mixed fare. The RDSO consists of 28 contracted musicians from across the province of Alberta and typically features dozens of freelance guests, resulting in concerts that include 50 to 70 musicians.
The RDSO’s season will consist of seven one-night concerts, including Strings for the Season and January’s Suite Francaise. Local orchestras largely rely on season tickets from local music lovers to sustain themselves, often advertising themselves with brochure printing and social media and offering discounts to entice subscribers.
So far, the RDSO’s season ticket drive has been successful, with the group saying it has attracted over 50 new subscribers. The group is also launching the “Wandering with Wonder” documentary with a virtual event on October 14, including a panel discussion with the filmmakers.
The Red Deer Symphony Orchestra will kick off its season with “Mighty Maestros” on the evening of October 29. All of the season’s Main Stage concerts will take place at the Red Deer Polytechnic Arts Centre.
