A film producer from Red Deer has shown that he has what it takes to stand out from the crowd.
Brendan O’Brien was recently awarded top prize at the first ever Big Rock Eddies Short Film Festival with his documentary submission ‘An Alberta Farm’.
The film tells about the struggle of Bruce Bell, who is an Alberta dairy farmer trying to keep far afloat during tough economic times. It was material gleaned form a three-hour long interview that Mr. O’Brien noted was very difficult to shorten down to just the allotted five minutes.
The filmmaker owns Red Van Studios, which is based in Red Deer. He noted that he will be using the money to purchase upgraded equipment for his enterprise, and that he plans to enter his short film into other festivals around the country. A Stationery printing firm can create labels and Packaging to be included along with submissions, as well as any other printed materials he might find he needs.
The contest, which was held at Theatre Junction grand in Calgary, was sponsored by Big Rock Brewery. The prize for the winner was $10,000.
