The expo boasts of being the largest such event in Western Canada, and brings together horse experts from across the continent, including trainers, breeders, veterinarians and more. The event typically includes multiple tracks of instructional programming dealing with everything from barrel racing to saddle fitting. There will be a weekend-long Trainers Showdown between three top horse trainers showing off their skills and strategies, as well as clinicians available for horse owners to consult with.
Promotional material for the expo stresses its humble and practical beginnings:
“Horse Expo Canada was born out of necessity. The owners, Ryan & Marg, have supported and promoted equine events and have also been exhibitors at previous horse expo type shows in Canada and the USA.”
One of the main attractions of the Horse Expo will be the trade show floor, which will be complete with dozens of vendors offering horse-related services and products. This will include a separate “Stallion Alley” area, a gallery of horse-themed art, and even a fashion show. Trade shows provide a vital networking opportunity in any areas, with resume and business card printing being just as important for horse trainers as office workers.
The 2023 Horse Expo Canada will take place at Westerner Park in Red Deer from April 28 to 30.
