The Red Deer community has a proud Scottish history, which is to be celebrated at an annual event next month.
Since 1947, the Red Deer Highland Games have marked the start of the Highland Games season in Alberta. This year, they will be hosted at Central Middle School.
The annual Highland Games is a highlight event for the Red Deer community to celebrate the start of summer and features a wide range of events. Attendees will be able to watch as different participants compete in a variety of competitions ranging from physical strength challenges to races and artistic endeavours. Some of the competitions that will take place include piping and drumming, heavy athletics, kilted run, highland dance and band competitions.
There will also be a Celtic market for attendees looking for a unique gift or souvenir from the games. Attendees can also learn about how to make bannock and discover who in the Red Deer community has the best shortbread. For dog lovers, there will be a sheepdog demonstration and a puppy parade.
Events with many activities on offer like the Highland Games usually provide attendees with a brochure printed when they arrive outlining the event schedule, the backgrounds of the judges, and where different activities are taking place.
The Red Deer Highland Games will commence on June 28th, 2025 with the competition taking place at Central Middle School, located at 5121-48 Avenue, Red Deer. Additional information about the competitions can be found on the Games’ website.
