Radio station relaunches in Red Deer

The long-running “The Drive” radio channel in Red Deer has rebranded and relaunched as Rewind Radio, with a focus on classic hits from decades past.

Rewind focuses on hit songs from the 1980s and 90s, including pop and rock classics. The channel will involve numerous veterans of radio in Red Deer. The morning show will feature the reunited team of Matt Geddes and Ryan Simmons, who had a popular partnership on The Drive. The network’s other DJs include Charlee Evans in middays, Peter Michaels in the afternoon and Red Deer native Patrick Bateman on evenings and Saturday afternoons.

In addition to music, the rebranded station will carry live broadcasts of Red Deer Rebels junior hockey games. The channel has partnered with Red Deer News Now to provide regular updates on local news. The Rewind name and format came as a result of consultations with Red Deer residents and listeners.

General Manager Bryn James says that listener feedback played a major role in shaping the new brand:

“We heard the same two things over and over again…play more hits and get Matt and Ryan back together. We listened and we have delivered on both.”

Changing a station’s identity can often be an extensive undertaking, involving new logo design and using promotional products to cement the new name, but can reap major rewards in listenership. Rewind Radio is currently broadcast on the 106.7 FM frequency, having rebranded in early December.
