What's Happening in Red Deer, AB…

Exhibit by local artist Issy Covey at the Kiwanis Art Gallery

Twisted: Works by Issy Covey is currently on exhibit at the Kiwanis Art Gallery located in the Red Deer Public Library building. The exhibit will run until August 21 2011. Local printing companies are always interested in learning about artists who use various mediums in their art works; viewing different artists and their work motivates others and sparks the creative imaginations of everyone who uses design in their own daily lives.

Issy Covey is a local Red Deer artist who mainly concentrates on creating unique pottery and digital art. She has developed a method where she merges digitally enhanced photographs of natural items such as rocks and plants with her pottery. This results in original and dramatic effects. Her preferred methods of creation are fired pottery, and raku (which is a kind of Japanese pottery mainly used in the Japanese tea ceremony).

This art exhibit is presented by the Red Deer Arts Council and the Red Deer Public Library. The Arts Council has been in existence since 2010 when several arts groups merged. Their goal is to promote “the arts through education, advocacy and programming.”

It is important that local arts organizations use their resources to promote local artists. Art is not just the realm of the big city, artists are everywhere and they must be supported by their communities. We need art in our lives; it helps to nourish our souls and also shows us how we can also use our imaginations to create beauty.
