Beverage event comes to Red Deer

A new trade event, the Malt Academy, will be headed to Red Deer this March, hoping to provide training for both professional and hobbyist brewers of barley and malt beverages.

The Malt Academy will be hosted by the Canadian Malting Barley Technical Centre (CMBTC) and Alberta Barley, and it will be a two-day event. The material runs from “Malting 101” and “Intro to Brewing” sessions targeted at beginners to more complex topics like “Barley Analysis: Germination Energy”. There will also be a tour of the Red Shed Malt House to show how brewing looks in practice. Speakers include experts from the CMBTC, as well as from Rahr Malting and Olds College, combining practical experience with academic insight.

The two days will also feature lunch events and a joint dinner at the Commonwealth restaurant. Trade events such as this typically provide plenty of opportunity for networking, with entrepreneurs and industry figures often trading Business Cards and contact information to help make these connections permanent.

The Red Deer event is based on the programming of the Malt Academy training institute in Winnipeg, which offers courses on everything from the Canadian barley industry to beer tasting to both industry professionals and amateur enthusiasts.

The Malt Academy event in Red Deer is set to take place on March 23 and 24 at the Holiday Inn & Suites Red Deer.
