What's Happening in Red Deer, AB…

Art-themed community event returns to Red Deer

Red Deer has been preparing for the sequel to a large community cultural event that premiered last year.

Billed as the ‘Second Annual Heritage Day Hootenanny’, the occasion will once again be sponsored by the Red Deer Museum and Art Gallery (MAG) and will have live entertainment, family-fun activities, games, tours and a bevy of vendors providing food, beverages and merchandise.

Chandra Kastern, Executive Director of the Hootenanny, told RD News Now that:

“We’ve been busy planning for some great art making, live music performances, food trucks, museum tours and a whole area for children and families to explore.”

Performing at the venue will be Boots Graham, Steph Strings, the Red Hot Hayseeds, Tim Hus and Noeline Hofmann.

As part of MAG’s effort to expose the value of art to the public, there will be locations at the Hootenanny for forms of artistic expression, like woodblock printing. An “Art Walk and Market” will be offered to attendees as well.

Food options include an ice cream truck, a grilled cheese and poutine spot, a Filipino-style BBQ vendor and a fruit bowl truck. Merchandise vendors will be offering a wide selection of art-themed wares, jewelry, clothing and beauty and health products. Vendors at events like this will often invest in flyer printing beforehand so they can distribute promotional materials on the day.

The Hootenanny will be held on Monday, August 4th from 12:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Red Deer Museum and Art Gallery located at 47A Avenue, Red Deer. Admittance is free.
