Alberta and Red Deer plan centennial celebrations
2013 is a special year for the Alberta communities of Rocky Mountain House, Sylvan Lake, Delburne and Red Deer. All four will be celebrating their centennial birthdays in the New Year, which will be accompanied by public events and festivities for residents. Local printing companies will also no doubt be on hand to provide printing services to help promote important events in Alberta’s heritage and history.
The Centennial First Night will be on New Year’s Eve, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, with slices of a huge 10 kg cake, printed temporary tattoos of Red Deer’s centennial logo, and thousands of glow sticks to be given away. The crowd will also be treated to a skating party on ice and fireworks display, provided temperatures stay warmer than -20°C.
Other events throughout the 2013 centennial year in Red Deer will be centennial events, like the Centennial Grove on March 25, along with the Festival and River of Light from June 29 and 30, and Outdoor Barn Dance in summer and the Old Fashioned Fall Fair scheduled for September.
Printed advertising will help go a long way in ensuring a high turnout for all the important heritage celebrations, as a good deal of public poster printing is expected to boost audience attendance and invite everyone to attend the free events. As the centennial events celebrate the peak of the settlement group, The Red Deer Centennial Committee chairperson wants to get everyone involved. The Committee is also working closely with community groups and various consultants on putting together the centennial heritage events.
