William Perehudoff retrospective at Glenbow Museum

The Glenbow Museum in Calgary is presenting a retrospective on the works of Canadian artist William Perehudoff. The Optimism of Colour: William Perehudoff, a Retrospective will be at the museum from July 1 to September 18, 2011. Print companies in the city will be interested in learning about his use of colour to create a dramatic statement.

William Perehudoff was born in Langham, Saskatchewan in 1919. He attended several art schools in the US during the 1940s and ‘50s before returning to Canada. In 1994, he was given the Saskatchewan Order of Merit and in 1999 received the Order of Canada. Perehudoff retired from painting in 2001.

The art of William Perehudoff appears in several galleries throughout Canada including the National Gallery, the Art Gallery of Ontario and the Montreal Museum of Modern Art. The works chosen for the Glendbow Museum exhibit are taken from both public and private collections.

Perehudoff’s use of colour has made him a major proponent of the Colour Field movement. His paintings are dramatic. The bold use of colour makes his work stand out from the others. He is considered to be one of Canada’s leading abstract paintings. His work has been described as “luminous.”

Canada has produced some of the greatest artists in the world. Printing companies who pay attention to the art world often produce some of the most dramatic and eye-catching products for their customers; a brochure using bold swathes of colour or recognizable styles of art will always stand out.
