Edmonton presentation to excite local orchidophiles

Orchids may sound like exotic species mostly found in the tropics, but an Edmonton event will show they can be found much closer to home.

The Edmonton Native Plant Society will be sharing its excitement when it comes to native orchids during its upcoming presentation scheduled for late April. It will explore the 31 species that call the province home.

The audience for the Native Orchids of Alberta activity will find out what ecosystems the orchids found in Alberta habitat thrive in and what they need to survive, and they will also learn how to identify the various types. Details for how changing climate factors can influence how a species is distributed will be shared, and David Fielder, who is a subject matter enthusiast and amateur botanist, will share his love of these plants. Metered parking will be available, and the function is part of the Central Alberta Plant Study Group’s free workshop series.

A class or workshop may offer a deep dive into a particular subject, and organizers can order a variety of printing services from local professionals. They can supply everything from handouts to oversized visual materials, and they can perform services at various price points.

Wednesday, April 29th will serve as the date for this introduction to the orchids that call Alberta home. It will run from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm in the Botany Lab at the University of Alberta .
