Upgrades coming to Edmonton neighborhood

The Edmonton community of Queen Mary Park is set to receive a upgrade to its infrastructure.

At a recent meeting of the area’s residents, more details were given about the plan, much of which will be funded through the Building Great Neighborhoods program.

The president of the neighborhood’s community league noted that nearly all of the area’s current sidewalks, roads, and other infrastructural elements are in poor condition and require improvement. He also remarked that the organization has been pushing for upgrades for many years.

Dale Lehman, who is the general supervisor of the neighborhood renewal design group, pointed out that the construction is set to begin in 2016. It will cover new road surfaces, sidewalks, curbs, intersection adaptations to help improve traffic flow, and the construction of shared bike paths to encourage people to get out and be active.

Another public consultation about the project will be held sometime in late 2015 or early 2016. A Print company will be able to produce printed Copies of reports and other information about the improvements that can be distributed to those who come out to attend.

There is also a plan to replace the current streetlights with some that bear a more decorative design, improving the aesthetic appeal of the area. To do this, the proposal needs to have the approval of 51 percent of the area’s residents.
