More than 120 cyclists kicked off this year’s Tour of Alberta last weekend, with a time trial loop which ran through the city of Edmonton.
Crowds of happy and excited fans lined the streets of Churchill Square to watch world class athletes, such as Ryan Hesjesdal, Cadel Evans, and Peter Segan, give their all. Many of the spectators carried cowbells and other noisemakers, with organizers praising the energy in the crowd.
Many fans, some decked out in their favorite cycling attire, had staked out good spots and waited for hours to watch the race, and they were not disappointed.
The riders on the Tour of Alberta will take part in a five-day trek across the province. Racing enthusiasts will follow them along their route, with many choosing to camp along the way.
One feature of this event that is especially appreciated is the way it gives fans a chance to get to know their heroes a little bit better. The tour buses were parked at the Art Gallery of Alberta, and members of the public got a chance to watch as the riders warmed up and went through their paces.
Many spectators brought Banners encouraging their favorite participants, which had been created for them by Print companies. The riders also stopped for photo opportunities with fans. It is likely that some of the fans will look to enlist the help of local Print services to re-produce these images in a professional manner once the event is over.
