Southwest Edmonton residents will now be able to have help more quickly in the event of a fire emergency as Heritage Valley Fire Station recently opened its doors.
To help mark the occasion, a grand opening celebration was held. Edmonton Fire Services chief Ken Block was on hand to speak at the occasion, and he noted that this new station is something that people in the area have been wanting for a long time, and that the extra few minutes that will be saved can make a huge difference in saving lives and property. A Mailing service can send out notifications to everyone in the area that lets them know about the new station and what number to call if they need help. They can also include tips on fire safety on the importance of smoke detectors in the home.
The building has an LEED silver certification, and was built at a price tag of $10 million. Construction of the facility began in 2013, and much of the funding came from the province. It is the very first civic building that has been built in Southwest Edmonton, and city councillor Michael Walters remarked that he was very happy to see this type of investment made in the community which is very fast growing. It had seen an expansion of its population by 15,000 people in the past few years.
