When they stopped by the welsh Pavilion recently, visitors to the Edmonton Heritage Festival found themselves transported back hundreds of years to the early 1400s.
They were treated to a historical reenactment of the Welsh revolt that took place in the 15th Century. Thousands came by throughout the day to see the action and step back in time.
The performance was put on by the Knights of the Northern Realm, which is a ‘living history’ club. Founded in 2001, its members study historical records and accounts and then recreate battles and daily life using accurately reproduced period armor and combat techniques, all while wearing historically correct clothing.
Having performed at the pavilion for the past 12 years, the group can always be counted on to draw a large crowd of onlookers. This year’s reenactment focused on the communication between the English and the Welsh.
The past president of the St. David’s Welsh Society had nothing but good things to say about the group, and praised it for its efforts. He also thanked the many volunteers who make the event possible, noting that without their contributions, it would not continue to be such a success.
Even though groups such as this strive to be as true to history as possible, they can still make good use of modern methods to produce some of the items they use. An example of this is banner printing companies that can create Banners and other decorative items for their events that can add to the overall period feel of the day.Get a Free Quote for Banners
