At Edmonton’s Winspear Center for Music, children got a chance to see the orchestra and the tools of their trade up close and personal just before Christmas.
Over 250 local kids were given an opportunity to see how an orchestra works and they even got to hold and touch a wide range of instruments as part of the day’s “instrument petting zoo”.
The event took place before the symphony’s performance of ‘Songs of the Season’. The participants also got a sneak peek behind the scenes of how a hand bell ensemble performs from the Alberta Hand Bell Ringers.
Once the musical part of the day was over, the children made holiday crafts to display at Enmax Hall and, through a generous donation from Robert Rosen of City Lumber and Millwork, they were also treated to a good lunch.
One of the mandates of the day was to provide kids with an opportunity to learn more about music and perhaps spark an interest in the arts. Many of those who took part were members of groups like the Big Brothers/ Big Sisters and Mother Terresa Elementary school’s YONA Sistema project, which seeks to provide music education through a variety of outreach initiatives.
A Print company can help to promote events like this by producing printed programs so the children will have a souvenir of their special day, thereby potentially fostering a lifelong interest in music and encouraging young people to take up playing an instrument.Get a Free Quote for Print
