The climate in Calgary can sometimes present a challenge to its gardeners, but there are species that do well in its cool and dry conditions, and these will be explored during an upcoming online presentation.
The participants in the virtual Crevice Gardening workshop will discover how to select plants for special uses, and cold steppe and alpine plants will be the focus of the activity. The presenter for the function will be Rob Staniland, who represents the Calgary Rock and Alpine Growing Society.
During the talk, Staniland will introduce species that can tolerate the cold and do not tend to need a lot of watering or other care. He will explain how rocks and other “hard” landscape elements may provide a microclimate, which allows for a more diverse range of species than what would typically do well in the city. Design will be incorporated in the discussion, and there will be construction tips and other advice shared as well.
Many gardeners take advantage of the winter months to learn and plan for the upcoming season. They may choose to attend workshops or other educational events, and Stationery printers can supply handouts and other aerial for such activities.
