On 9/11, flights from all over the world were grounded, and a play that tells the story of how this impacted a tiny community in Newfoundland will be making a stop in Calgary.
The play “Come From Away” is based on the story of how 38 planes carrying nearly 7,000 passengers were diverted to Gander, a Cold War-era air base in Newfoundland, when the US made the decision to shut its airspace down in the wake of 9/11. The audience will learn how the community of just 10,000 people opened its homes and hearts to the crowd.
The performance will be in the city for five days in mid-September. It has a duration of one hour and 40 minutes, and it is geared towards those aged 10 and up.
Currently on a North American tour, Come From Away has won several awards and critical acclaim. Many theatre companies choose to sell themed souvenir Promotional Products before and after a performance, and these can be prepared by area Print shops.
This story of how a tiny town in Newfoundland welcomed the world will run from Tuesday, September 17th until Sunday, September 22nd at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium, 1415 14th Avenue NW in Calgary. Showings are at 7:30 pm each night. It is being offered thanks to Broadway Across Canada.
